Raven Wants To Put Us Back

Herbert Read Gallery
Canterbury

2019

The installation Raven Wants to Put Us Back plays with the question of presence. Our ubiquitous connectivity to each other and compulsive need to publicise feelings and trivia onto media sites can negate true experience. How can we remain present within one situation?   The resulting installation of figures, crows and paintings is ongoing, improvised and must make room for possible additions in the future. The title refers to the Haida story of creation where Raven finds a shell on the beach which is making a strange noise. He prizes it open and out of it crawl the first people, naked and scared, running up the beach.
